Saugus Leo Club
sponsored by the Saugus Lions
Check back often for the latest news from the Saugus Leos! The Saugus Leos will announce the commencement of the www.SaugusLeos.com Yankee-Candle Fundraiser. Thirty-five percent of all purchases made via SaugusLeos.com will be distributed, in equal shares, to the Saugus Leos Club, Massachusetts Lions Eye Research and a Boston children’s cancer hospital. The Leos are currently debating what area of the community their portion of the proceeds will be donated to. “Helping blind people see and kids with cancer are a good start,” stated Leo Club President Jessica Jankowski. “The remainder will be voted on by the (Leos) Club in November, once we know the success of the Yankee Candle drive.” The fundraiser is believed to be one of the first of its kind--combining the proven success of a traditional candle fundraiser with commercial power of the internet. “The concept of e-Fundraising might not be a secret after this event,” says an optimistic Saugus Lions Club President, Marc Chapdelaine. “The Saugus Leos are young and exciting and could generate unprecedented levels of sales, helping children with cancer, visually impaired people from Massachusetts and the Saugus community at large.” The purpose of the meeting is two-fold: First, execute the Saugus Leo Club Charter. Second, to launch the e-Fundraiser. The Lions District Governor, Randy Pinch, will be presenting the Leos Club with an official club banner. At the sound of the bell, signifying the close of the meeting, the Saugus Leos, under the leadership of Saugus Leos Club President, Jessica Jankwoski, the Saugus Leos Club will be officially recognized by Lions International and a major fundraiser will be launched. All are welcome to attend. For more information, contact Marc Chapdelaine at (781) 233-1988 or visit www.SaugusLeos.com . Leos have the opportunity to learn and practice leadership skills and enrich the Saugus community. The Saugus Leo Club will have opportunities to create service projects while creating social and professional connections. Members of the Leo Club are students who are committed to excellence in teamwork, leadership and character. The college and financial aid applications of an active Saugus Leo will include clear evidence of leadership skills and a commitment to the well-being of their local community. “The goal of the Leo Club is to give students a chance to make a difference in their community, individually and as part of a team,” said Marc Chapdelaine, President of the Saugus Lions Club. “The Saugus Lions are excited to provide this opportunity to students looking to become involved with their town in a unique way.” “The Saugus Lions have always supported our youth in various ways. I think starting the Leo Club is critical at this time when so many of our youth services are being diminished. I hope parents will encourage their kids to get involved,” said Greg Nickolas, Director of Saugus Youth and Recreation Services. The inaugural meeting will be held Tuesday, March 18 at 7 p.m. at Prince Pizza in Saugus. Free pizza and refreshments will be served. Meetings will take place once a month. High School students from Saugus and the surrounding communities welcomed. For information about the Leo Club Program, contact Saugus Lions President, Marc Chapdelaine at 781-233-1988 or visit the Youth Programs section of the Lions Web site at www.lionsclubs.org.
